Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are major hindrances to economic and social development and their impact is visible at individual and family level as well as in the level of society at large. Efforts in reducing poverty and improving human development indicators are critically hindered by the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. gender based violence, poor education performance of children, protection and wellbeing of children, physical and psychological health of the women and the entire family are major issues directly and indirectly related to alcohol tobacco and other drug use. Alcohol related violence almost always victimize the most powerless, especially women and children.
Therefore, we are committed to reducing alcohol, tobacco and drug consumption and related behaviors in our working areas. Strengthening of the civil society on issues such as child rights, and women’s rights are also considered important in order to achieve sustainable health and development indictors.
Therefore an healthy environment is the ultimate goal of the work of Healthy Lanka while Child rights, women’s rights and gender issues are being the crosscutting theme of a healthy environment
